Skydiggers and a Saturday afternoon

After 10 consecutive days of work and a particularly hectic 50 hr week, I was feeling strung out and missing my close friends terribly. It had been almost 3 weeks since my best friend and I had gone out together. We were both suffering from separation anxiety. In particular, I was craving a night out listening to live music.

By a stroke of luck and good timing, a new friend saved the day. He added us the guests list for the Skydigger's show at Hugh's Room. And so, my best friend and I were privileged with our preferred girls night out. Great music, great beer and great conversation (in that order).

The Skydigger's evoked nostalgia by playing fun-loving music with a subtle swagger. Carefully executed vocals, harmonies and clever lyrics. Texture reminiscent of American shape-note singing. Piano solos were sensitive and at times conjured Jerry Lee Lewis himself. A brick and mortar rhythm section intrigued me with metre changes that popped up like a jack-in-the-box. And I thought to myself, "I love it when I hear something I'm not expecting. How clever."

Today, I have managed to parlay the fun and excitement of last night's show into a perfect Saturday afternoon puttering around the apartment while falling into blissful distraction writing lyrics and noodling on my ukulele.

So thank you Skydiggers. It was such a joy to be at the show. It was such a joy to meet you.
